Private bedroom in a mobile homes. Secluded area minutes from the beach. Jobs all riding distance. Many students in the area. One home has cats. 4-8 per home. Very much like home. American culture a regular event. Mentors available to teach english.

No couples, well raised polite students. When a J-One student comes to live in our community they become part of our family. They receive mentoring to navigate a new culture with new systems. Learning to read a pay stub or receiving the tools necessary for road safety are a few ways students are helped by their mentors. The arrival dates of the international students are quickly approaching. Students will arrive as early as May and the typical stay will be 11-15 weeks. They will come with high hopes to make a lot of money and to create further opportunity to study in or move to America.They won’t be expecting that there is a large ring of human traffickers along the coast waiting to snatch up the most vulnerable. Some will come with $20 in their pocket which isn’t enough for a taxi from the airport to their rental unit and have no clue that they won’t begin working for a week and won’t be paid for another week after that. Others will have no place to sleep because their sponsor’s contact fell through. And others will come to a hopeless situation where their employer is also their landlord. They will be living in squalor, sharing beds with strangers and told that they will lose their job if they complain.
